1. Understand the design and purpose of television Idents.
2. Understand the opportunities and limitations of onscreen graphic representation.
3. Be able to originate and plan television Idents to a brief.
4. Be able to produce a television Ident to a brief.
Ident analysis task
Initial Ideas for the channel
The brief- To create a series of channel Ident designs for a new British music Multi - Genre video Channel called 'u(zic).
1: A clarinet symbol playing and font suddenly flows out of the clarinet and centres at the background.
2: A 'Dalek' wearing minature head phones is listening to up to date music. The 'Dalek' advances toward a plain white 'USIC' logo and then shouts 'We are the future, exterminate!'.
The 'Usic' symbol immediately catches fire (a few electrical sparks may occur on the logo too). The dalek may then sing a song called 'I'm on fire', or a punk/metal themed song to do with fire.
As the Dalek is doing this, it exits of screen, while the 'Usic' symbol continues to burn.
3: A small green Alien with a silver ray gun walks up to the plain white text and says 'We are the future' and shoots the symbol with its ray gun. The 'Usic' symbol may catch fire or turn into a more slicker font style.
4. An iPod laid horizontally on a miniature skate board with head phones for eyes rolls around a white background and comes forward to the screen.
It then conducts electricity between both of its eyes and the 'USIC' symbol suddenly appears. The head phone eyes may have little black clay bits resembling pupils, for further character.
5. Two classic British themed instruments are having tea and saying cliche British terminology such as 'Bi Jo' or 'Tea gov?'.
6. Two telephone boxes acting like loud speakers in shaking back and fourth, while a football character is playing the music.
Chosen Idea and how it applies to the target audience and brief
Chosen Idea and how does it apply to the brief?
How will it appeal to my chosen target audience?
Alterations to the idea to ensure the Ident is suitable for audiences:
My Tutor commented that the idea of the 'Dalek' shouting 'Exterminate!' could potentially sound too aggressive and implore a violent tone with the 'Dalek' suddenly seeing the logo on fire.
Additionally My Tutor implored for the 'Dalek' to exhibit perhaps a more humorous personality, or suddenly change from being aggressive to having a change in heart.
Modifications to the idea:
1: 'Dalek' could shout exterminate to the Logo. Suddenly the Logo throws a miniature smart phone and set of small head phones, which fall onto the 'Dalek'.
Suddenly the 'Dalek' listens to a currently popular piece and may say something like 'This is my Jam', or 'may say, 'ex' and stammer a lot. However, as the music builds up, the 'Dalek' then shouts 'Excellent' and suddenly spins around in a dancing motion.
Act structure:
'Usic' symbol listening to some music with head phones from an iPod.
Suddenly a 'Dalek' approaches the 'Usic' symbol. It says "You are my prisoner"/ "Halt!"/"Exterminate".
The 'Usic' symbol taken by surprise drops his headphones onto the floor. The music plays out, which the 'Dalek' hears.
The 'Dalek' then shouts "What is this, ex" and stammers "ex" multiple times, until it screams "Excellent!"
The 'Dalek' could then pick up the head phones with its sucker arm and then spin around uncontrollably listening to the music.
However I found out that the 'Dalek' characters were copyrighted under the 'BBC'. Therefore the 'Dalek' characters could not be incorporated into the Ident.
Alternatively I could revolve the same synopsis, but with an Alien being instead. It could say things like "We are here to invade", or "I am here to invade your, uh, planet".
The headphones drop out and the 'Alien' hears a song play out called 'Invaders must die' ('The Prodigy').
The Alien then runs away screaming as soon as the beating sections of the song play through the head phones.
Tutors feedback:
My Tutor stated the song selection to be potentially appropriate but the idea of using a song to not be as ideal, due to possible copyright issues.
Alterations to Alien Ident plot:
'Usic' logo listening to music with headphones. Alien with a ray gun approaches 'Usic' logo and says "We are here to invade your planet".
'Usic' A minature football (with eyes and mouth) listening to music on miniature headphones. Suddenly a red phone box rings. The football quickly goes into the telephone box. Suddenly, the phone box doors slam shut.
The phone box laughs mockingly, while the football demands to be let out (gibberish voice). OR!!!
A minature football is chased by a set of headphones. The football runs into a telephone box, which then slams shut. The headphone snake tries to get in, but the football laughs as he fails to get in.
The head phone snake then forms the 'U' symbol in 'Uzic' while the telephone box and football form the 'I' symbol in 'Usic', followed by an 'z' and 'c' letter.
OPTIONAL IDEAS!:
'Uzic' logo at centre screen. Alien comes in and sees a football. It uses a device to levitate the football of the ground and on top of the I , forming the circle part of the i at the top.
While this happens the football is shouting for it to be put back down.
A miniature clay football character (with eyes and mouth) is riding on top of a miniature red telephone police box, which is flying almost like a rocket. It then flies down into the incomplete 'Uz c' logo. It lands between the 'z' and 'c' now completing the logo to 'Uzic'.
Modifications to Idea 2:
1: Alien spaceship beams up 'Uzic logo', which is initially plain. However the 'Usic' logo is then beamed back down looking more fresh and stylish. To imply the channel to be British, elements such as a miniature red phone box and football could be incorporated into the Ident and be abducted by the spaceship too.
My Tutor and I discussed the ideas above.
Below is a list of new ideas we have discussed:
An Alien visiting a British street. He finds it boring and dull.
Alien tourists looking around London. They wear union jack hats and belts etc. However, they then see a telephone box and become really excited and start taking pictures of it and of themselves with it. The Aliens open the phone doors and suddenly a loud noise occurs from within the telephone box. The Aliens are taken by surprise but shortly intrigued and go into the phone box and see a lot of people dancing. The interior of the phone box can also be 'bigger on the inside' (referring to the 'Tardis' concept on 'Doctor Who').
A parody of E.T in having an Alien say 'Phone home' and then points to a telephone box.
Phone box robots invading an alien planet/alien spaceship. They state "We are the future".
Mood boards
Considerations for font appeal to target audience:
The Video channel is for a British music multi genre channel.
The target audience are particularly youths and young adults.
Pros and cons of themes (referring to target audience and channels identity)
On Monday the 18th of January 2015, I consulted with my Tutor concerning the Ident design idea of the Alien dancing inside the phone box.
Idea 1:
I decided to use the concept of cartoon and hipster like blob characters (which may appeal to youths and young adults) due to their considerable 'cool' look.
They would wear eccentric Britain clothing including top hats, tweed jackets or even bow ties. They could have gibberish for high pitched/deep voices for humorous appeal.
Ideas for what the blob characters could be doing?
Having a tea party. One of them says 'Tea governor?' Both are listening to music on head phones. One of them shouts to the other "Tea Gov?'. The other may speak in a very high pitched upper class tone and say 'Yes indeed Charles'.
Appeal to target audience:
The use of surreal blob based characters has been applied to some of 'MTV's Idents in 2014, such as below.
They are humorous, surreal and have an almost 'hipster' quality, enforcing a young vibe to the music channel (I.e. youths and young adults). Additionally I will try to apply eccentric based fashion wear to the blob characters, by having them wear bow ties and top hats, appealing to the heritage tastes of British upper class eccentricity.
For further humorous appeal the blob characters will have high pitched voices.
Additionally, one of them may speak with a cliché 'cockney' accent, which youths and young adults will be familiar with and associate with Britain. One of the other characters meanwhile will have a more sophisticated upper class accent.
The blob characters may also be listening to music, using a recent phone model, which currently youths and young adults use. Additionally I may apply the recent large head phones for the characters to use, so as to appeal to audiences likeness of listening to streamed music with large headphones.
Idea 2: Spaceship abducting 'Uzic' logo:
Pros - The theme of the Sci Fi film genre, is a popular trend among the target audience of youths and young adults. Therefore the concept of a spaceship abducting the 'Uzic' logo will hopefully be an appealing factor to the target audience. It also implies a futuristic identity to the company as being 'the future' channel of television.
Cons - The Ident does not have any overall British quality, appealing to the trends of British youths and young adults.
Modifications to Idea 1
Below is a picture plan for how my first Ident idea would roughly be set out.
My Tutor liked the concept of the blob characters listening to music and one speaking in a cockney accent with the other speaking in an upper class tone.
He stated however for more diversity appeal, the blob character offering tea could be like a punk female (gender appeal and conveying diverse genres of music). Additionally for humorous appeal, my Tutor suggested the upper class blob character could refer to the punk cockney blob character with a sophisticated name, such as Winifred.
Below are some inspiration photos for the character.
The people are wearing Moheke hair styles as well as leather jackets with silver pointed objects on them. These are symbolised with punk metal, thus audiences can easily identify with.
Additionally this very casual and wild considered fashion style would immediately and humorously contrast with the other blob characters sophisticated appearance of a top hat and bow tie.
Below are some possible design ideas for the character offering tea.
Additionally, my Tutor suggested the idea of the blob characters face turning into different faces, as the music possibly changes in tone, or genre of music, conveying the channel to contain all kinds of music for all kinds of people.
For inspiration on what the blob characters faces can change into, I have decided to watch particular videos showcasing different music genres and trying to base costume Ideas for the blob character offering tea.
Font Ideas
Below are some ideas for font.
Most of these font ideas are based from http://www.dafont.com, suggestions from peers as well as recommended logos including 'Kiss' Radio.
Font design survey
Inorder to obtain a more valid opinion of my font ideas, I created a survey via 'Survey Monkey' asking a specific category of youths and young people (using an age question section), asking for their opinions of my font ideas, improvements/other ideas, as well as what they like to see in a logo.
Target audience research for fonts
In order for my logo font to appeal to my target audience of youths and young adults, I will need to research channels targeted toward my chosen market audience and determine appropriate colours and fonts to apply to my own Idents channel logo.
Reference pictures
So far from looking at the channel logos below, the colour purple, pink and white are particularly colourful. The 'three' in the 'BBC three' logo has a rather 'cool' and 'groovy' style, giving of a young and 'cool' vibe to the channel.
Both 'music' fonts meanwhile have a straight edge, giving of a computer and thus cliche futuristic tone and vibe.
Presentation: first draft
Tutor feedback: My Tutor commented on the following:
I would need to research more contemporary color palettes.
Below is my research:
To make my concept of characters more appealing for the target audience. (I.e making them).
My Tutor suggested the idea of them all turning into different characters, in accordance to a particular genre of music playing. (e.g. Heavy metal - Blob suddenly has a long curly hair style and jacket with silver studs).
Rectified blob designs - R&B Blob characters
I used the following video to research appropriate costume regarding this genre of music.
Initial designs for both blob characters
Final design for R&B blob characters
My Tutor commented that the blob characters look too similar to the blobs from the 'M.T.V' Ident.
Color palette in accordance with R&B Blob characters
Below are the common colors I have identified in use of R&B music videos:
Bright red
Gold
Silver
Black
White
Rectified design for Pop blob characters
Mis en scene props I may apply to blob characters:
This hair style include highlighters, a trend popular among many young males today.
This hair style is long with a color dye applied. This a modern trend for many young women today.
Additionally the use of short tops is quite common too.
Rectified design for Dub step blob characters
Tutor feedback:
My Tutor commented that the blob characters needed more detail applied to them.
Rectified design for dubstep blob characters
Due to dub step futurising music through electricity, I decided to apply a cliche representation of the future, by impersonating one of the blobs as a robot, with square eyes etc.
For the other blob character, I may also incorporate electric waves flowing around the blob character.
This would give of a more surreal and energetic tone to the ident, enforcing the channel to potentially be 'cool' and energetic.
Final designs
Heavy metal blob characters
Rectified designs for blob characters
My Tutor commented a green colour could be applied to the blob characters, as well as pericings/tatoo based designs.
Make the headphone logo more appealing in originality for target audience.
The target audience usually like to buy headphones with high quality sound, which is loud and clear.
To emphasise this likened quality being applied to the music channel, the head phones logo may be given a shake movement applied, as well as rather chaotic 'wavy' drawn lines to emphasise a raving quality.
Alternatively, I will probably add an almost electrical wave effect (which can potentially be sourced from via after effects or hand drawn on flash), which may be similar to those in electro/dubstep music.
E.g. image source below.
The use of an electric wave effect would help to emphasise the loud stereo like quality modern day headphones posses, thus enforcing audiences appeal to trends of buying the latest gadet, due to dub step being a symbol of modern technological based music and implicating the channel to 'futuristically modern' and up to date with the target audiences trends (I.e likeness of dubstep music and buying large headphones/other gadgets).
Decided color pallette and how it shall appeal to my target audience
R&B Shots:
As we can see in this image from having searched google images "R&B", we are given a rather accurate representation of the types of color incorporated into R&B. This incorporation of colors has been included in many R&B music videos, including:
Pop
Dub step color pallette
Punk music color pallette
An alternative solution
My Tutor stated it could be quite difficult to make the blob design consistent with each genre of music.
He stated as an alternative I could design just one blob character and make the background apply to the genre of music.
The blob could react in different ways to the music.
1. Blob in white background acting normal.
2. Suddenly R&B Music appears, which Blob reacts curiously too.
3. Hip hop music appears, which Blob happily smiles at.
4. Punk music occurs, causing blob to jump and react slightly scared.
5. Dub step music occurs.
6. UZIC Logo occurs.
Blob design for character
Color palette for backgrounds (annotations indicate which genre of music they are to convey).
My Tutor recommended for me to stray away from the idea of blobs and to perhaps consider incorporating iconic singers, such as
David Bowie
Morrissey
The Queen
Johnny Roten (Could be used to represent R&B).
Adele.
Olly Murs.
Rod Stewart
Paul Mc Cartney
Amy Whine House
Emile Sande
Who can represent which music?
Johnny Roten - According to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Lydon Johnny Roten (real name - John lyndon) is known for playing punk rock music.
The queen could also represent punk, due to themselves playing Rock and Roll.
Dub Step- Avicii (A.K.A Tim Berlin) is a Swedish Electronic musician and D.J. His popular genre of Electro House, coincides with Electro, which in turn connects with Dubstep.
Megan Trainor - Pop music
Paul Mc Cartney - Pop, electronic and even Rock.
Sir Mick Jagger.
Audience appeal?
These stars are iconic toward especially teenagers and young adults. Seeing a mix of iconic and currently popular stars will thus potentially appeal to audiences more.
Idea 2:
A woman leaves the house, saying goodbye to her cat.
The cat is lying down on the sofa. The cat then turns its head toward a phone lying on the floor.
One cat is listening to the song "Katy Perry -Roar", while another cat is listening to a heavy punk metal song.
A woman is trying to listen to some music, using the radio. She complains about the reception and turns around to see her pet cat with some headphones and an iPod.
The woman gasps at her.
R&B Weekend: The woman is trying to listen to some scrambled R&B Music on the radio. The woman may wear generic clothing including a cap hat and glasses.
Punk and rock: The woman may wear a punk leather jacket.
Alternative idea:
A cat is staring at a window, where it is raining outside. The cat speaks in a rather eccentric old fashioned accent. He speaks "Oh dear, can't go outside. Gives me an opportunity to sleep, eat food, be stroked, or (begins walking toward a radio/loud speaker).
As the cat says this, he walks over toward a large radio/speaker.
The cat sits in front of the radio/speaker and music plays behind him.
The 'UZIC' logo then appears, possibly saying "Uzic, nothing else matters wh
Alternative Idea 2:
A silhouette of a teenage figure listening to music, via headphones and an I pod/smart phone.
The colours could change to the colour palette, in accordance with the music being played.
Below is a still of a test shoot for the potential silhouette effect.
Final idea
On Wednesday the 27th of January 2016, I showed my Tutor a rough draft of the cat Ident.
Below is the rough draft
My Tutor commented on the following:
Make the shot of the elderly lady give of a more effective fish eye lens style, by positioning the radio in a more effective way as though the radio is warped right in front of the screen with elderly lady behind it. This will give of a more mad and aesthetically appealing form of imagery to retain the young target audiences attention span.
I was also recommended to consider cutting between the cat and woman by incorporating a shot of the cat looking 'smug' while on the headphones.
Other changes needing to be applied:
Split between shots of the cat dancing and the woman raging at the radio, to give of a quick, madly energetic vibe.
Try and apply headphones to cat.
Due to the difficulty in actually getting the headphones into the cats ears, one of my Tutors assisted me with chroma keying effects via 'After effects'.
Rough shot structure
Shot 1:
Wide shot of woman attempting to turn radio on and complaining about it.
Requirements for this shot:
Must ensure to move the radio prop into a position, which shall allow for an effective fish eye lens effect to be applied in 'Adobe Premiere'.
Shot 2:
Cat sitting around kitchen. It turns its head around.
Will need to ensure cat is sat still and will need to click my fingers in a particular direction to ensure the cat looks in the required direction.
Shot 3:
Mid shot worm eye view of I Pod and Large set of headphones on the kitchen floor.
Requirements: Camera will need to slowly zoom in.
Shot 4:
Birds eye view/ mid shot side view Cut in/extreme close up of cats paw grabbing the I Pod and head phones from the floor.
Requirements: I may need to buy a cat paw prop online/store. Alternatively, I may apply a piece of string onto both the headphone and I Pod and then select a section of the clip where the paw is moving up ward toward the I Pod.
If these methods do not work, then I my self will grab them but ensure to keep my hands and fingers of screen.
Shot 5:
Mid close up front view/extreme close up front view of I Pod suddenly appearing up in front of cats eyes.
Requirements for this scene: When in Post Production, I may introduce the Dub Step music and increase its volume, to convey a growing sense of dramatic tension for the up burst sectioning of the music, which the target audience will most likely look forward to hearing.
Shot 6:
Wide shot of woman continuing to mess about with the radio, expressing annoyance and slight irritability.
Shot 7:
Mid close up front view of cat with I pod and head phones.
Requirements: I will need to increase the volume of the dub step music, as well as its arrival time to give a sudden tone to the sounds entrance. I may also need to apply a slight shake effect to metaphorically emphasise the loud vibrating stereo speakers typically found at 'Dub step' music events. I will also need to apply a colour effect. Particularly neon bright sparking colours, to emphasise the room coming alive from music.
Shot 8:
Cut in side view of cats paw moving up and down.
Requirements: I will need to place a piece of string, to entice the cats paw into wanting to move upward. Sequentially I will need to ensure both my hand and the string are of screen.
Shot 9:
Close up front view of cats head moving from side to side.
Requirements: Will need to click my fingers in different directions.
Shot 10:
Wide shot of woman picking up the radio and shaking it up and down. She begins expressing more agitation.
Shot 11:
Cat rearing up and down.
This shot may be one already filmed!
Requirements: Increase clips speed, copy and paste it again and reverse the shot.
Shot 12:
Mid shot birds eye view of woman looking up to the ceiling, squinting eyes, gritting teeth and growling.
Shot 13:
Mid close up front view of cat looking up, smugly (This shot has already been filmed, but maybe re filmed just in case).
Mis En scene for regular Ident
Below are some research images concerning mis en scene with senior female characters. I have decided to refer to the senior female character in the music video 'Waiting For Love' by 'Avicii'.
These costume elements including a pearl necklace, buttoned cardigan and clipped hair, give of a rather generic stereotype of a typical 'grandmother'.
Therefore if a similar costume is applied to my character, then audiences will potentially be put of guard, in thinking they are just going to view a rather dull Ident with an elderly lady.
However they will be put of guard when seeing her character get irritated with malfunctioning radio, especially when screaming in rage.
Below are a selection of desired costume ideas and additional props too.
Mis en scene for R&B weekend version
List of Items:
Thin blue tie - Can be supplied from home. Thin suit Glasses and a black cap Black jacket:
For reference, I observed the costume and hair styles used in 'Worth It', by 'Fifth Harmony'.
Below is another reference ( From https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2S-lY-nuTqg) of R&B Fashion wear for females.
Below is a selection of costume materials, I feel to be appropriate to the up to date genre of R&B music.
Mis en scene for Punk rock version
List of items:
Black/dark/bright red lip stick
Punk jacket (Lots of zips)
Light green hair spray
Tight trousers
Safety pins
Test video for 'ZIC' logo
For my logo at the end, I had the idea of making the white gaps in the font for 'ZIC' changing color to give of an energetically young vibe to the channel.
On Monday the 1st of February 2016, I asked one of my Tutors for assistance in helping me achieve this effect.
We began by going onto 'Photo Shop', where we typed in 'ZIC' (Due to U potentially being formed as a headphone).
My Tutor applied a 'Polygon' tool, where you could form an outline around the desired areas of the letter font (I.e white gaps), where you would like for the color change effects to occur.
Sometime after, we coloured the white gaps in red and ensured to save the file as a 'J.PEG', due to enabling the text to opacitate with any background, instead of it being embedded onto a background and not blending in a desired one.
Next we imported the'J.PEG' file into 'After Effects'.
My Tutor selected a change to color effect and then selected key frames for transform, light, saturation and color to change effects, enabling for each key frame to control for a particular color applied in the text font gaps and to transform to a different color per key frame.
Test video
Headphone test for 'U' in 'UZIC' logo
These ideas were an inspiration
Color effect test for regular Ident
Due to R&B Music being applied to the Ident, a range of flashy bright colors will need to be incorporated.
Below are some screen shots of inspiration ideas:
Post production for generic Ident
This Ident is required to be six seconds approximately in length.
My Tutor stated I could alter the duration period by clicking on composition settings and then changing the end time code for the project.
Originally I was going to apply the standard scenario of the woman raging at the radio.
My Tutor however commented that it would be better to place the cat into a surreal environment once the cat had its headphones on.
Unfortunately the concept of applying a R&B costume to the elderly female character would not seem to make any sense or appropriateness.
Therefore I abandoned this concept as a whole and just applied a basic concept of the cat dancing and listening to Dubstep music.
Below are screen shots of appropriate footage I feel were suitable for dance shots of the cat.
I asked my Tutor for assistance on how to mask my cat into my desired background.
He showed me a tool, called the 'Roto Brush Tool'.
This allows for you to draw a mask outline over the thing you wish to composite into another background or move independently. In my case, placing the cat into a background and getting rid of the kitchen setting to give the impression the cat was on its own in a surreal environment.
I needed to create a new mask outline per frame.
Eventually I managed to apply the desired effect of placing the outline of a cat into a desired background.
I would then need to draw around the cat outline per frame.
Applying the headphones
Originally for the headphones, I applied a black pair. Unfortunately, it was not a clear enough image and other headphones could not be.
Originally, I applied the below headphones to my cat:
Unfortunately the top section of the headphone could not be resized to make it look as though they were lying on the cats head, with the cans sequentially being on the ears either.
Therefore, I looked for another headphone, which would be more suitable, in terms of height.
Below is the second headphone I sourced.
However, I needed to try and make the headphones a more appropriate size.
My Tutor showed me a method, by which the could could be shortened and yet looks as though it was attached to the headphone band at the top.
I also rotated the can at the right, to make it look as though it was on the other side of the cats ear.
I rubbed out the following part below too to make it more realistically convincing the cat was wearing legitimate headphones.
Unfortunately there was difficulties, due to the cats ears popping out behind the headphones, making it less realistic that the cat was actually wearing headphones.
My Tutor recommended to cut out the ears, with the 'Roto Brush Paint Tool'.
In the end, I managed to make the headphone more compact and suitable fit the cats head more appropriately.
Next I applied a wiggle path effect (kindly applied and suggested initially to by my Tutor) to give of a Dub step wave effect, corresponding effectively with the genre of music playing in the Ident.
Creating the background colour choice:
My Tutor recommended for me to use a behaviours effect tool, where I could select different backgrounds.
Originally, the colour schemes were blue and green. My Tutor however commented the green conveyed a 90s style, which of course would be controversial to the modern theme trying to be shown.
I was recommended to use a strong pink/purple colour theme, which he commented as being more 'contemporary'. Therefore, the colours would not be too highlighted to distract audiences away from the cat or other backdrop elements, but yet still make the Ident aesthetically pleasing.
Choice of music
In order to prevent risks of copyright infringement, I sourced royalty free music from 'YouTube'.
I found one, with an electronic, fast paced beat, giving of a modern partying vibe, thus appealing to the target audience, who like to listen to this type of music.
Below is a link:
Making the logo move
For the logo 'UZIC', I was recommended by my Tutor to make the headphone and text move up and down, which would emphasise the loudness and potentially partying vibe the channel gives of.
I applied a wiggle path in between the headphone to give of a dub step wave, for aesthetic appeal.
In addition to the headphone, I applied a separate wire Jpeg image, to form the required curl at the bottom of the 'U'.
Post Production for R&B Ident
For the R&B Ident, I selected the following items.
Choice of music:
Originally, I applied a music source from a royalty free video via 'YouTube'. This had a more hip hop tone, which would not correlate as effectively enough to the genre, according to my Tutor.
My Tutor recommended incorporating rap song element, which would be more conventionally appropriate.
I managed to source one from 'Pond5.com'
Post Production for Punk and Heavy Metal Weekend Ident
Below is slideshow of cat shots, I felt would be suitable for this Ident.
Below is a list of images, I sourced for my Punk and Heavy Metal Ident
I managed to suitably place these elements around the cat character.
Next, I applied a behaviour background and incorporated a grey and black coloured theme, appropriate to the music genre.
My Tutor however commented that the
I then applied a shake effect, to make the background move about, giving of a chaotic and raving tone to the channel.
Choosing the appropriate music:
I selected a source from 'Pond 5.com'
Website link: http://www.pond5.com
Post production for bumpers
Bumper 1:
My Initial bumper incorporates the idea of a lime green backdrop, (giving a young and considerably cool aesthetic tone). and the headphone 'U' falling down next to 'Zic'.
I applied key frames for the 'U' to fall down.
Next, I decided to source a dramatic 'thump' based sound for when the 'U' fell down.
Bumper 2:
Concept: 'U' bottom wire touches 'ZIC' causing the background to change (in an electrical form) and the 'ZIC' text white gaps to change colour.
Bumper 3:
Concept: Headphone flips around to form the 'U' and complete 'UZIC'.
Below are screenshots of of turning the Headphone around.

Additional feedback
Age: 19-20
Comments on each Ident:
Ident 1: Too basic, colour backdrop was engaging, but could have had more things going on to make it look more attractive.
Ident 2: Engaging visual movement. Liked how the background changed.
Ident 3: Quite humorous for the Headphone to turn around and form the 'U' in 'Uzic'.
R&B Ident: Humorous concept of the cat raising its paw up and down. Image of cat could have been clearer and necklace should have been applied. background and font looked very R&B like.
Punk and heavy metal: Humorous idea of cat bobbing its head up and down. Very chaotic atmosphere.
Generic idents: Engaging background and shots of cat dancing.
What kind of vibe did these Idents imply to the 'UZIC' channel:
I personally have obtained a rather young and cool vibe. However, there could have been more appropriate mis en scene, for each genre music ident to make it more relevant to the genre (e.g. punk and rock - heavy metal jacket).
Feedback 2:
Ident bumper 1 finale - I liked it, there was quit a lot of colour in there. It was a bit fast, but i think when you do it again it would be longer.
Ident bumper 2 - I really liked that one. For the fact that it had more going on. It was colourful again, it had certain speeds to it. It was engaging and quit enjoyable.
Ident bumper 3 - It littrally just spun in a circle. It still looked good, just maybe you could add all 3 idents together. To A make longer, but B make it look a lot better as well.
R&B Ident - This is my favorite one cause it has so much going on and its really fun and engaging.
Punk And Metal Weekend - I like it, but it just seems kind of i don't know.
Yeah I think it is aimed at a young audience maybe a teenage target audience because of the R&B and the punk stuff.
Feedback 3:
"No, I thought they were all done very well. However I think that maybe with bumper number one you could have used a different background colour as the green made it seem a little bit like a green screen."
"I think that these idents give a cool vibe and make it seem like a stylish and trendy channel which appeals to the younger generation."
Feedback 4:
"I think that all of the idents had a humorous element to them which is fun for audiences and the fact that they carry that humour makes the channel more welcoming and friendly. My favourite of the idents was the generic channel ident because it has fun, attractive colours and music which you would expect to hear for a music channel ident."
"The vibe I get from these idents is that µ(zic) is a fun channel for a younger audience, however, I do feel that based on the imagery it seems to be directed to a younger audience of >15 (15 or below) as older than that teenagers prefer things that show off their maturity e.t.c. nowadays."
Feedback 5:
"I think that all of the idents had a humorous element to them which is fun for audiences and the fact that they carry that humour makes the channel more welcoming and friendly. My favourite of the idents was the generic channel ident because it has fun, attractive colours and music which you would expect to hear for a music channel ident."
"The vibe I get from these idents is that µ(zic) is a fun channel for a younger audience, however, I do feel that based on the imagery it seems to be directed to a younger audience of >15 (15 or below) as older than that teenagers prefer things that show off their maturity e.t.c. nowadays."

"All I can say is from watching them all there isn't a so gle thing wrong with them"
"Exactly that a young cool vide"
Brief report based on feedback
Based on my feedback, it seems my Idents in general have managed to convey a stylish and reasonably young and cool Identity to the 'Uzic' channel. Some of the Idents managed to apply visual appeal for audience engagement.
However, I could have tried to incorporate more mature based mis en scene and themes, relating to older teenagers, as according to one feedback source, the Idents seemed to appeal more to younger teenagers.
Mainly however my bumper Idents were regarded too simplistic and could have had more things going on around them. Additionally a more effective background such as Neon pink/dark purple could have been applied as the bumper background also.
