On Wednesday the 21st of October 2015, I organised my clips, by naming each take.
Next I controlled the in and out points for each take.
After I had chosen my desired takes and their in and out point, I dragged them into my timeline and synched them to their destined lyrics in the song track for 'Feeling good' by 'Avicii'.
I decided to place my opening shot with the cut in of the youth opening his eye, behind the glass bottle.
The beginning section of the song track had a rather ambient and surreal echo like tone, which would correspond well with the opening shot, as the youth has just woken up and is feeling rather blurred out (due to all the drinking). Thus audiences could potentially gain an understanding of how drunk and dizzy the protagonist must be feeling.
For the rest of the scene, I applied the same structure with the shots in point having an action during a click/beat/'duh duh' sound effect.
I was not aware of how to create a fade to black effect for my final shot.
I asked one of the tutors. He stated for me to apply a key frame at the beginning, with a normal opacity.
Next I needed to apply an end key frame, with the opacity having been completely black.

I showed my Tutor the music video so far.
He commented on the following:
The shots of the young drinking needed be blurred, with bright colours and quick cuts. This would convey a disorientating look to the scene. Additionally I was asked to cut to the cut in of the youth drinking from the bottle to convey the youth was excessively drinking, thus more easily establishing the protagonist to have a drinking problem.
I shortened the duration of cut ins of the protagonists mouth sipping out from the bottle and applied them very frequently between shots of the protagonist being drunk. This would emphasise the protagonist to be drinking more and more each time.
Additionally, every now and then I applied a close up front view of the protagonist smiling straight into the camera. This would convey the protagonist to be happy in his own little world.
For parts of the track section containing click and beats, I mainly synched them with the in point of shots with the protagonist waving his arm, or picking the bottle up to his mouth, or when the bottle entered into the protagonist mouth.
This would allow for the beat and click sounds to give added value in emphasising the youth to be having fun.
I needed to convey that the youth protagonist was having fun and feeling rather disconnected from reality.
Therefore I needed to apply a rather surreal colour effect.
I applied the 'Channel blur effect, which also enabled me to apply blurred colour effects. I decided to use a purple and rather green like tone, as they were bright and gave of a youthful and night out type of vibe.
Additionally, for the shot of the protagonist becoming less happier, I decided to transition the purple colour away to the normal grey tone used in the previous shots before the drinking scene.
This would convey the character coming back to reality and his bleak and depressing mood coming back into him again.
I was also asked to slow down some of the shots with bike scene, as well as the swing scene.
One shot with the bike was too surreally fast, that it conveyed a comedic tone.
For the shot of the fish in the tank for 'Fish in the sea', my Tutor stated it was too humorous, as the fish was in a tank and not in a sea.
He stated that alternatively I could apply the shot of the picture of the girlfriend flowing down the river with the lyric 'Fish in the sea' ( due to the term also meaning there are plenty of other girls).
This would correspond well as the picture of the girlfriend is in the water and shows the youth to be letting go of her and accepting he is not with her anymore.
For the shot of the youth cycling out of the tree tunnel, I was stated to slow the shots down to make the characters happiness more significant to the audience.
Additionally it would convey as though the protagonist was caught in a rather dream like moment and was conclusively happy.
I applied these changes, by slowing the duration of the shots.
I showed my Tutor the renewed changes.
He also commented that additionally:
I should use a dissolve transition to cut between the protagonists expressions, to convey as though his inner anger is coming out of him. I applied a cross dissolve transition.
I was also recommended to gradually increase the suns brightness in the bridge scene to convey as though a slight tone of happiness was coming, but everything was still bleak.
For the prologue I was asked by my Tutor to apply a more grey colour tone, which would convey a more bleak and depressing atmosphere, allowing audiences to more easily see how sad and depressed the protagonist is. Thus hopefully enabling audiences to bond a pitiful connection with his character.
I was also asked to apply a more brighter colour tone to the scenes of the protagonist being optimistic and happy. This would enhance a light hearted and happy mood.
I applied a brightness and contrast colour effect.
I ensured not to apply too much brightness but at a contemporary medium, where there was enough brightness but so as not to distract audiences away from what was happening in the shot.
I was also asked to make the prologue scene and others (excluding bike scene which required a quicker pace) slower.
This would give the prologue a more slow and mundane vibe, conveying to audiences the character to not have any optimism or goal in his life
However it would also work for the scenes of the protagonist acting happy, as it would give of the impression as though the protagonist is caught in a very special moment and that nothing can take him away from it.
My Tutor commented that instead of the ending shot fading to black, it should fade to white, conveying a more positive tone, whereas fading to black would implicate a bleak ending.
On Friday the 6th of November 2015, I showed my music video to my Tutor once more to see if any modifications were required for improvement.
He commented on the following:
A more brighter colour tone.
To possibly zoom into some shots.
A peer of mine also recommended I could zoom into close up, to signify the protagonist was starting to feel a new sensation (e.g. happiness), particularly for the tree scene.
My Tutor agreed with this, but stated to make it very slow, as of course zooming in very quickly would give a humorous approach.
Below are images of me applying these changes.
Sometime after, I was happy with the end result and then uploaded the video to my 'YouTube' account.
